Yemenia (Yemen Airways) is Yemen’s national airline, flying a small Airbus fleet mainly from Aden to Cairo, Amman, Jeddah, Riyadh and other regional cities. Strikes on Sana’a airport in 2025 and 2026 destroyed several of its aircraft, so most flights now leave from Aden. This guide covers routes, booking, baggage, travel advice and how Yemenia compares with EgyptAir and Royal Jordanian.
Yemenia (Yemen Airways) was founded in 1962. Because of the long-running conflict in Yemen, it now operates mainly from Aden with a small Airbus fleet, and for many Yemenis it is one of the few ways to travel abroad for work, study or medical care.

Israeli air strikes on Sana’a airport in May 2025 destroyed several Yemenia aircraft on the ground, and the airport was struck again in July 2026. Yemenia’s Sana’a–Amman route has been listed as suspended, so most of its flights now operate from Aden and other airports in the south and east.
Yemenia follows the ICAO power bank rules in force worldwide since 27 March 2026:
Many passengers book through Yemenia offices or travel agents rather than online. Check in at the airport early, with printed copies of your ticket, passport and visa.
Before booking, check your government’s travel advice for Yemen, as it can change quickly and may affect your travel insurance.
Many governments currently advise against all travel to Yemen. Register with your embassy if that service is offered, and carry cash in US dollars or Saudi riyals, as cards are rarely accepted.

Yemenia’s main connecting cities are Cairo and Amman.
