Biman Bangladesh Airlines is the national airline of Bangladesh, flying from Dhaka to the Middle East, Asia, Europe and North America, plus domestic routes. Economy passengers can bring a 7 kg cabin bag, and checked allowances are generous on many Middle East routes. This guide covers power bank rules, check-in at Dhaka, Hajj flights and how it compares with Emirates and SriLankan Airlines.
Founded in 1972, the airline flies Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 777-300ERs on long-haul routes, Boeing 737s on regional routes and Dash 8 turboprops on domestic flights. It carries many Bangladeshi workers between Dhaka and the Gulf.

Biman follows the ICAO power bank rules in force worldwide since 27 March 2026:
Dhaka’s airport is very busy, so arrive at least three hours before international flights. The new Terminal 3 is opening in stages, so check which terminal your flight uses. Carry printed copies of your ticket and visa, as documents are checked several times.
Infants under two travel on an adult’s lap with a 10 kg allowance, and bassinets can be requested on long-haul flights. Wheelchairs and other special assistance should be requested at least 48 hours before the flight.
Many passengers fly between Bangladesh and the Gulf:

Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is about 15 km north of central Dhaka. Traffic is heavy, so allow plenty of time. Ride-hailing apps, taxis and the Dhaka Elevated Expressway can shorten the trip.
You can also book an airport transfer in advance at a fixed price.
It offers non-stop flights from Dhaka on modern Dreamliners and generous baggage on many routes, though punctuality and service can be less consistent than on Gulf airlines.
Its direct London flights save time for families travelling between the UK and Bangladesh.
