Guide reviewed
Find the lowest fares and compare them with other airlines in one search.
Akasa Air is one of India’s newest low-cost airlines, flying Boeing 737 MAX jets from Mumbai, Bengaluru and Delhi across India and to the Gulf. Every fare includes a 7 kg cabin bag plus a personal item, domestic fares include 15–20 kg of checked baggage, and power banks cannot be used during the flight. This guide covers power bank rules, check-in, flying with pets and how it compares with IndiGo and Air India Express.
The airline was founded in 2020 and took off in August 2022. Backed by investors including the family of the late Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, it has grown fast and now flies a young fleet of 737 MAX aircraft.

India’s aviation regulator, the DGCA, tightened the rules in January 2026:
Web check-in opens 48 hours before domestic flights, and seats chosen in the last few hours may cost extra. Counters close 45 minutes before domestic flights and 60 minutes before international flights, so arrive at least two hours early in big cities.
Use DigiYatra at major Indian airports for faster entry and security with facial recognition.
Infants under two travel on an adult’s lap, and families can buy seats together at booking. Wheelchairs and other special assistance should be requested at least 48 hours before the flight.
The airline is one of the few in India that allows pets in the cabin:
Snub-nosed breeds such as pugs and Persian cats are not accepted, and there are limits on the number of pets per flight.

Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport is about 25 km north of south Mumbai. Taxis, ride-hailing apps and the Metro serve the airport, and Navi Mumbai International Airport now offers a second option for some flights.
You can also book an airport transfer in advance at a fixed price.
Yes. It offers a young fleet, friendly service and reliable operations, and its pet-friendly policy stands out in India. Its network is still smaller than IndiGo’s.
USB charging points at every seat and a simple fare structure make it popular with young travellers and families.
