IndiGo is India’s largest airline, flying to more than 90 Indian cities and across the Gulf, Asia and Europe from hubs in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. Saver and Flexi fares include a 15 kg checked bag on domestic flights, UpFront 20 kg and the Stretch business cabin up to 40 kg. This guide covers the five fare types, cabin bag size rules, web check-in, the DGCA power bank rules and how IndiGo compares with Air India.
IndiGo was founded in 2006 and is based in Gurugram, near Delhi. A simple low-cost model and strong punctuality made it India’s largest airline, carrying more than six in ten domestic passengers.

Web check-in is available on the IndiGo website and app before departure, with a digital boarding pass for most domestic flights. Some seats are free at web check-in.
Indian airports check ID at the terminal door and security queues can be long, so arrive at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international ones. DigiYatra face-scan entry is quicker at participating airports.
India’s aviation regulator, the DGCA, tightened power bank rules from January 2026. They apply to IndiGo and every airline flying in India.
Families can add infants and children to one booking, and infants under two travel on an adult’s lap. Strollers can usually be checked at the gate.
Wheelchair assistance can be requested in advance and is widely available. Pets are generally not carried in the cabin.

Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport is linked to the city by the Airport Express metro from Terminal 3, and app-based cabs and prepaid taxis are widely available.
You can also book an airport transfer in advance at a fixed price.
Yes, for most domestic trips. IndiGo is known for punctuality, a huge network and low fares, which makes it the default choice for many Indian travellers. The Stretch cabin adds comfort on busy business routes, but the basic Saver fare includes few extras.

Since January 2026 IndiGo sells five fare types under the name 6E Ways to Fly: Saver, Flexi and UpFront in Economy, plus Stretch and Stretch+ in the IndiGoStretch business cabin. On domestic flights the checked bag is the biggest difference. If you only need 15 kg, Saver is usually the cheapest choice; for plans that may change, Flexi often costs less than paying a change fee later.
Under DGCA rules, eligible domestic bookings made more than 7 days before departure can be changed or cancelled free within 48 hours of booking. Otherwise you pay any fare difference plus a change fee for your fare type, and government and airport taxes are refundable even on cheap fares.
Seat selection is paid on Saver fares (with some free seats), and you can buy XL seats with extra legroom. IndiGoStretch is a 12-seat front cabin with wider 2×2 seats and meals on selected A321neo and A321XLR flights.
Meals, drinks and other extras can be pre-booked through the 6E Eats menu.
Economy passengers can bring one cabin bag of up to 7 kg plus a small personal item. The bag must fit within 55 × 35 × 25 cm, with the three sides adding up to no more than 115 cm including wheels and handles. Stretch passengers can bring 12 kg. A bag that is too heavy or too big may have to be checked in for a fee, so weigh it at home.
On domestic flights, Saver and Flexi include a 15 kg checked bag, UpFront 20 kg, Stretch 30 kg and Stretch+ 40 kg. International allowances are higher and vary by destination: Gulf routes usually include more than routes to Southeast Asia or Nepal. Extra baggage booked online is much cheaper than at the airport.
BluChip is IndiGo's free loyalty programme, launched in 2024. You earn BluChips on IndiGo flights and with partners such as co-branded credit cards, and redeem them for IndiGo flights.
Higher earning rates apply on IndiGoStretch.
The airline's two-character IATA code is 6E. It appears in flight numbers (for example 6E 101), on tickets and on airport departure boards. Its three-letter ICAO code is IGO, which air traffic control and flight-tracking services use to identify the airline.
It is not a member of a global airline alliance, although it may still have codeshare or interline agreements with individual airlines.
The airline is headquartered in Gurugram, India.
The airline was founded in 2006.
Its main hubs and focus cities are: Delhi (DEL) – Main Hub; Mumbai (BOM) – Hub; Bengaluru (BLR) – Hub.
