RwandAir is the national airline of Rwanda, flying from Kigali to more than 20 destinations across Africa, Europe and the Middle East. Economy fares include a 10 kg cabin bag and most include two checked bags, which is generous for the region. This guide covers power bank rules, check-in in Kigali, gorilla trips and how it compares with Kenya Airways and Ethiopian Airlines.
The airline was founded in 2002 and took its current name in 2009. It flies Airbus A330 aircraft on long-haul routes to London and Brussels, Boeing 737s on regional routes and smaller turboprops on short flights.

RwandAir follows the ICAO power bank rules in force worldwide since 27 March 2026:
Online check-in opens 24 hours before departure. Kigali’s airport is small but has thorough security, and Rwanda bans plastic bags, which may be taken from you on arrival. Arrive at least three hours before international flights.
Infants under two travel on an adult’s lap and can bring a carrycot and baby essentials. Bassinets can be requested on long-haul flights. Wheelchairs and other special assistance should be requested at least 48 hours in advance.
Many travellers fly to Kigali to see mountain gorillas:
Many nationalities can get a visa on arrival in Rwanda, and the East Africa Tourist Visa also covers Kenya and Uganda.
Long-haul Airbus A330s have lie-flat Business seats and an economy cabin with seat-back screens. Regional Boeing 737s have Business and Economy cabins, and meals and drinks are served on every flight, with local Rwandan coffee and tea.
Business passengers in Kigali can use the airline’s lounge before departure, and Wi-Fi is available on some aircraft for a fee.
