About Bamboo Airways

Bamboo Airways is a Vietnamese airline based in Hanoi. After years of cutbacks, it stopped selling scheduled flights in August 2026 and now runs only limited charter flights, so most travellers will need to book another airline. This guide covers its current status, baggage, power bank rules and the best alternatives, Vietnam Airlines and VietJet Air.

The airline was founded in 2017 and grew quickly, even flying to Europe and the US, before cutting back sharply in 2023 and 2024. It now flies a smaller fleet of Airbus A320-family aircraft.

Power Bank Rules on Bamboo Airways

Bamboo Airways follows the ICAO power bank rules in force worldwide since 27 March 2026:

  • Carry power banks in cabin baggage only, never in checked bags.
  • Up to 100 Wh is allowed without approval; 100–160 Wh needs approval from the airline.
  • A maximum of two power banks per passenger, kept within reach; no charging them, or devices from them, during the flight.

Check-In in Vietnam

Online check-in is available on the website. Counters close 40 minutes before domestic flights, so arrive at least 90 minutes early at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat.

Families and Special Assistance

Infants under two travel on an adult’s lap. Request wheelchairs and other special assistance at least 48 hours before the flight.

A Smaller Network

Bamboo Airways has shrunk sharply since 2023:

  • Its fleet fell from 44 aircraft to three, and its long-haul flights to Europe and Australia have ended.
  • In August 2026 it stopped selling scheduled tickets, with no domestic flights listed after 22 August, and now flies only limited charters.
  • If you hold a ticket, contact the airline about a refund or alternative flight.
