Icelandair is the flag carrier of Iceland, flying from Keflavík to Europe and North America. Its central location makes it a handy connection across the Atlantic, and you can add a stopover in Iceland without paying an extra airfare. This guide covers power bank rules, check-in at Keflavík, the free stopover and how it compares with SAS and Finnair.
Founded in 1937 in Akureyri, it is one of the oldest airlines in Europe. It flies Boeing 737 MAX and 757 aircraft and is adding Airbus A321LR jets.

New international (ICAO) rules apply from 27 March 2026, and European airlines follow them:
Online check-in opens 24 hours before departure, and self-service bag drop is available at Keflavík. Arrive at least two and a half hours before flights to North America, as US-bound passengers face extra checks.
Infants under two travel on an adult’s lap, and pushchairs and car seats can usually be checked in free. Request wheelchairs and other special assistance at least 48 hours before the flight.
You can break your journey between Europe and North America:
