LOT Polish Airlines is Poland’s flag carrier and a Star Alliance member, connecting Warsaw with more than 100 destinations in Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East. Every Economy fare, even Saver, includes an 8 kg cabin bag, while Standard and Flex add a 23 kg checked bag. This guide covers the fares, baggage, power bank rules, Warsaw tips, Miles & More and how LOT compares with Lufthansa and Austrian.
LOT began flying on 1 January 1929, making it one of the world’s oldest airlines still operating, and in 2012 it became the first European airline to fly the Boeing 787.

LOT follows the ICAO rules applied by European airlines since 27 March 2026:
Larger batteries need the airline’s approval, so check before you fly.
Online check-in is available on the website and app. Warsaw Chopin is compact, and connections are usually quick.
Allow time for passport control when connecting between Schengen and non-Schengen flights, especially to North America.
Bassinets are available on long-haul Boeing 787 flights, and infants under two travel on an adult’s lap. Request wheelchairs and other special assistance at least 48 hours before departure.

All three use Miles & More and Star Alliance, but their cheapest fares differ.

LOT sells Economy in three main fare types: Saver, Standard and Flex, with Premium and Business on top. Saver is the cheapest and includes a cabin bag but no checked bag; it is also the least flexible. Standard adds a checked bag, and Flex gives you the most freedom to change or cancel.
If you change your flight, you pay any difference in fare as well as any change fee for your fare type. When your plans aren't fixed, Flex can save you money compared with buying a new ticket.
With LOT you can choose a seat when booking or later in Manage booking; on Saver fares this costs extra, or you get a free seat at check-in. Seats with extra legroom are available to buy on most flights.
On long-haul Boeing 787 flights LOT offers Economy, Premium Economy and Business with lie-flat seats. You can check in online on lot.com or in the LOT app before your flight.
Every LOT Economy fare, including Saver, includes a cabin bag of up to 8 kg and 55 × 40 × 23 cm plus a small personal item of up to 2 kg. The difference is checked baggage: Saver includes none, while Standard and Flex include one 23 kg bag.
Checked bags can measure up to 158 cm in total. Buying an extra bag online before you fly is cheaper than paying at the airport.
LOT has used Miles & More, the Lufthansa Group's loyalty programme, since 2003. Joining is free, and you earn miles on LOT, Lufthansa Group airlines and other Star Alliance partners, then redeem them for flights and upgrades. Award miles are valid for 36 months.
