Guide reviewed
Find the lowest fares and compare them with other airlines in one search.
Aeromexico is Mexico’s flag carrier and a SkyTeam member, flying from Mexico City to more than 100 destinations in the Americas, Europe and Asia. Every fare includes a 10 kg carry-on, but Basic has no checked bag on routes in the Americas, and the US government ordered its joint venture with Delta to end from 1 January 2026. This guide covers the fares, baggage, power bank rules, Mexico City tips and how Aeromexico compares with Delta and Copa.
Aeromexico was founded in 1934 as Aeronaves de México and was a founding member of SkyTeam in 2000. Its regional arm, Aeromexico Connect, flies Embraer jets on many domestic routes.

Aeromexico follows the ICAO power bank rules in force worldwide since 27 March 2026:
Online check-in opens 24 hours before departure. Aeromexico uses Terminal 2 at Mexico City, and traffic to the airport is often heavy, so leave early.
Allow at least three hours for international flights, especially to the US.
Infants under two travel on an adult’s lap, and small pets can travel in the cabin on many routes when booked ahead.

All three link the US and Latin America, but with different hubs.

Yes. Aeromexico has the widest network in Mexico, a modern Boeing fleet and lie-flat Premier seats on the 787. Since the Delta joint venture ended, compare both airlines on US routes.

Facts checked in October 2026 against a 2026 Aeromexico baggage summary, Upgraded Points on the end of the joint venture and ICAO’s 2026 power bank rules. Rules change, so check the official Aeromexico website before you travel.
Aeromexico is a founding member of SkyTeam (2000). You can connect onto partners such as Delta, Air France, KLM and Korean Air on one ticket and earn Aeromexico Rewards points across the alliance.
Learn more about SkyTeamThe US Department of Transportation ordered the Delta–Aeromexico joint venture to end from 1 January 2026, so the two airlines no longer coordinate prices and schedules on US–Mexico routes. Both remain SkyTeam members and still codeshare, so you can earn and use miles on each other's flights.
Mexico City International Airport (MEX) is Aeromexico's main hub. Guadalajara and Monterrey are secondary hubs with domestic and US flights.

Aeromexico sells Economy as Basic, Classic and higher fares such as AM Plus, with Premier (business class) on top. Basic is the cheapest and includes no checked bag; it also has the strictest rules for changes and refunds. Classic and higher fares add a checked bag and more flexibility.
When you change, you pay any fare difference plus any fee for your fare type. For flights to or from the USA, the US 24-hour cancellation rule applies.
Seat selection depends on your fare: on Basic it costs extra, while higher fares include more choice. AM Plus seats with extra legroom are available on many flights. Clase Premier offers lie-flat seats on the Boeing 787 and wider seats on the 737.
You can add bags, seats and other services in Manage your trip before you fly, which is usually cheaper than paying at the airport.
Every Aeromexico fare allows a carry-on bag and a personal item with a combined weight of up to 10 kg, with the carry-on up to 55 × 40 × 25 cm. Basic fares don't include a checked bag. Classic and AM Plus include one bag: up to 25 kg on domestic flights in Mexico and 23 kg on international routes.
Clase Premier includes two bags of up to 32 kg, and more on flights to Asia. Paying for extra bags online is usually cheaper than at the airport.
Aeromexico Rewards is Aeromexico's free loyalty programme. You earn points on Aeromexico and SkyTeam flights and with partners such as credit cards and hotels, then redeem them for flights and upgrades.
Frequent flyers can reach elite tiers that are recognised as SkyTeam Elite and Elite Plus, with priority services, extra baggage and lounge access at the higher levels.
The airline's two-character IATA code is AM. It appears in flight numbers (for example AM 101), on tickets and on airport departure boards. Its three-letter ICAO code is AMX, which air traffic control and flight-tracking services use to identify the airline.
It is a member of SkyTeam. Alliance membership usually means easier connections, shared lounge access for eligible passengers and the option to earn and redeem miles across partner airlines.
The airline is headquartered in Mexico City, Mexico.
The airline was founded in 1934.
Its main hubs and focus cities are: Mexico City (MEX) – Main Hub.
The frequent flyer programme is called Aeromexico Rewards. Members earn points or miles on eligible flights and can redeem them for award tickets, upgrades and other benefits.
No. Basic includes a carry-on and personal item (10 kg combined) but no checked bag on routes in the Americas. Classic and AM Plus include one bag.

Partly. Their US–Mexico joint venture ended on 1 January 2026 after a US Department of Transportation order, but both are still SkyTeam members, so miles and elite benefits still work across the two airlines.
On US routes a first checked bag costs about $30 and a second about $55 when bought online; on Europe routes the first bag is about $60–65. Fees vary by route, so check Manage your trip.
