Malaysia Airlines is Malaysia’s flag carrier and a oneworld member, linking Kuala Lumpur with Sabah and Sarawak and flying across Asia, to Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East and London. Economy Lite includes only a 7 kg cabin bag, while Basic and Flex include checked baggage. This guide covers the fares, cabin bag rules, the group’s power bank ban, KLIA tips, Enrich and how Malaysia Airlines compares with Singapore Airlines and Thai Airways.
Malaysia Airlines was founded in 1972 and is part of Malaysia Aviation Group, which also runs Firefly. It joined oneworld in 2013 and is known for warm service and the satay served on board.

Malaysia Airlines, Firefly and the rest of the group apply strict power bank rules:
Online check-in is available on the website and app. At KLIA, Malaysia Airlines uses Terminal 1, with many international gates in the satellite building reached by the aerotrain.
Allow at least three hours for international flights and extra time for the aerotrain.
Families can request bassinets on long-haul flights, and infants under two travel on an adult’s lap. Request special assistance in advance.

All three compete on routes across Southeast Asia and to Australia and Europe.
