Garuda Indonesia is Indonesia’s flag carrier and a SkyTeam member, flying from Jakarta and Bali across the archipelago and to Asia, Australia and the Middle East. From 1 September 2026 it uses a piece baggage system: one 23 kg bag on domestic Economy flights and two on international ones. This guide covers baggage, power bank rules, GarudaMiles and how Garuda compares with Singapore Airlines and Malaysia Airlines.
Garuda first flew in 1949 and is named after the mythical bird on Indonesia’s national emblem. Its group includes the low-cost airline Citilink.

Garuda follows the ICAO power bank rules in force worldwide since 27 March 2026:
Online check-in is available on the website and app. Garuda uses Terminal 3 at Soekarno–Hatta. Traffic to the airport is heavy, so allow two hours for domestic and three for international flights.

Three full-service options for Southeast Asia.
