TAROM is Romania’s flag carrier and a SkyTeam member, flying from Bucharest to Romanian cities, European capitals and the Middle East. In 2026 it is under an EU-approved restructuring that caps its fleet at 14 aircraft, while new Boeing 737 MAX jets are due to join the fleet. This guide covers the restructuring, check-in, power bank rules, cheap flights and how TAROM compares with LOT and Aegean.
TAROM was founded in 1954 and is Romania’s state-owned flag carrier. Its name stands for Transporturile Aeriene Române.

TAROM has not reported a profit from its flying since 2008 and is under an EU-approved restructuring plan backed by €95 million of state aid. Under the plan, its fleet is capped at 14 aircraft and its network at 27 routes.
TAROM follows the ICAO power bank rules in force worldwide since 27 March 2026:
Online check-in is available on the website. Allow two hours at Henri Coandă for European flights, and request wheelchairs or other special assistance at least 48 hours before departure.

Three full-service options for Eastern Europe and the Balkans.

Henri Coandă is about 17 km north of central Bucharest. Trains run to Gara de Nord, and express bus 783 and taxis link the airport with the city.
You can also book an airport transfer in advance at a fixed price.
TAROM offers full service and SkyTeam connections from Bucharest, but its network is smaller during the restructuring. Check your schedule before you fly.
