Asiana Airlines is South Korea’s second full-service airline, flying from Seoul to Asia, North America, Europe and Australia. It leaves Star Alliance on 16 December 2026 and merges into Korean Air the next day, when linked Asiana Club miles move to SKYPASS. This guide covers the merger dates, what happens to your miles and bookings, baggage, power bank rules and how Asiana compares with Korean Air and Japan Airlines.
Asiana was founded in 1988 and became known for award-winning service. Korean Air completed its takeover in December 2024, and Asiana will be fully absorbed on 17 December 2026.

| 16 December 2026, 11:59 pm Seoul time | Asiana leaves Star Alliance |
| 17 December 2026 | Korean Air absorbs Asiana; linked Asiana Club accounts move to SKYPASS |

If you have a booking around these dates, check it regularly for new flight numbers or schedule changes.
Korean airlines, including Asiana, apply strict rules on top of the ICAO standard:
Online check-in is available on the website and app. Incheon is large, so allow at least three hours for international flights.
As the merger completes, more services move to Korean Air systems and terminals, so confirm your terminal before you travel.

Asiana has been a Star Alliance member since 2003, but it leaves the alliance on 16 December 2026 ahead of its merger into Korean Air, a founding member of SkyTeam. Star Alliance award tickets on Asiana flights after that date will be cancelled.
Learn more about Star AllianceSince Korean Air took control in 2024, Asiana and Korean Air have been aligning schedules, services and loyalty programmes ahead of the full merger.
Seoul Incheon (ICN) is Asiana's international hub, and Seoul Gimpo (GMP) is its main base for domestic flights, including the busy route to Jeju.
Popular Asiana routes link Seoul with Jeju, Tokyo, Osaka, Bangkok, Singapore and Hong Kong, as well as Los Angeles and San Francisco. Choose a route to see recent schedules and fares.

Asiana sells several fare levels in each cabin, with cheaper fares carrying change and refund fees and more flexible fares costing more up front. Because of the merger, Asiana flights after 16 December 2026 will be operated as Korean Air, so check your booking for any schedule or flight number changes.
If you booked a Star Alliance award ticket on an Asiana flight departing on or after 17 December 2026, it will be cancelled, so rebook or ask for a refund in good time.
Asiana offers seat selection when booking or in My Booking, with extra-legroom seats available on many flights. Business Class has lie-flat seats on long-haul aircraft, and the Airbus A380 has been used on some of its busiest routes.
Online check-in is available on flyasiana.com and in the app before departure. As the merger progresses, more services are expected to move to Korean Air's systems.
Asiana allows a carry-on bag in Economy of up to 10 kg plus a small personal item. Checked baggage depends on your cabin, fare and route. Flights to and from the Americas use the piece concept, with two 23 kg bags in Economy, while other international routes have their own allowance shown on your ticket.
Because Asiana is merging with Korean Air, baggage rules may change for flights after the merger date. Always check the allowance in your booking before you fly.
Asiana Club is Asiana's loyalty programme, with five tiers: Silver, Gold, Diamond, Diamond Plus and Platinum. Because of the merger, Asiana Club miles will be converted to Korean Air SKYPASS miles.
Miles earned by flying are planned to convert at 1:1, while miles earned with partners such as credit cards convert at a lower rate. Partner earning on Asiana flights within Star Alliance ended for flights departing after 15 October 2026.
The airline's two-character IATA code is OZ. It appears in flight numbers (for example OZ 101), on tickets and on airport departure boards. Its three-letter ICAO code is AAR, which air traffic control and flight-tracking services use to identify the airline.
The airline is headquartered in Seoul, South Korea.
The airline was founded in 1988.
Its main hubs and focus cities are: Seoul Incheon (ICN) – Main Hub.
